Both are retained and exclusive. Executive search is specifically the top of the org: CEO and C-suite, VP-level, and board or director seats, where confidentiality, succession, and leadership fit are decisive. Our broader retained search applies the same exclusive model to critical senior roles below that tier, such as directors and specialists. If you are recruiting or replacing top leadership, this is the right engagement.

Should we use retained or contingency search for a C-suite or board hire?

For C-suite and board roles, retained is the right structure. Contingency firms compete on speed and only get paid if they place someone, so they work fast and wide rather than confidential and deep. A retained engagement is exclusive and consultative: we commit to the full search, map seated passive leaders, protect confidentiality, and assess for long-term fit. At this level, the cost of the wrong hire dwarfs the difference in fee. Our contingency model is a better fit for active, lower-tier roles.

Can you keep the search confidential, even from the current executive?

Yes. Discretion is the core of executive search. We approach the market under a codename, screen candidates before any name reaches you, and structure the process so the search stays private until you choose to make it public, including during a sensitive succession.

What happens if the executive does not work out?

Every placement carries a replacement guarantee. If a hire leaves or does not work out inside the guarantee window, we run the search again at no additional search fee. Because the engagement is retained and exclusive, we have every incentive to get the leader right the first time.
